This first seminar will feature the following two talks:
Developing Mobile Applications: State of the Art
In many cases, it makes clear business sense to deploy a mobile
application. But once you’ve decided to build one, your choices have
just begun. What handsets do you target? Are tablets included? Do
you build a native or Web-based application? Which development tools
do you use? What technologies or frameworks? If Web-based, do you
keep it simple or target the latest Web standards?
In this talk, we’ll go through the information you need to make those
decisions — which handsets support which Web and native technologies,
what you can do with cross-handset frameworks, how to target tablets
in addition to or instead of handsets, and so on. You’ll leave with
the information you need to select the best approach for building your
mobile application.
Mobile Design Concepts for Your App
Everyone wants a mobile presence. It’s desirable both in-house, to improve
efficiency, and in the store – with a view to promoting the next “great
app”. But how do you go about producing your own mobile application?
In the preceding talk you saw what is available to implement a mobile
application. Now it’s time to start thinking about how to put your idea or
existing application into a mobile platform.
This talk aims to provide you with solid mobile design concepts so that you
can make sound choices for your mobile application. We’ll cover good design
practice and touch on ideas regarding ‘what makes a great app “great”‘.
The content will be at a conceptual level, as good mobile
design practices have little to do with the platform on which they are
deployed.
