Chariot Sponsors Philly’s First Women Only Hackathon

WHYY TO HOST PHILADELPHIA’S FIRST WOMEN*-ONLY HACKATHON
PHILADELPHIA, PA — On March 1 and 2, women* of the Greater Philadelphia tech community will gather at WHYY to participate in Philadelphia’s first women* only hackathon. Organized by members of the local chapters of Girl Develop It, Girl Geek Dinners, the Hacktory, PyStar, TechGirlz, and Web Start Women, the event hopes to challenge the typical hackathon setting and encourage women* to participate in Philadelphia’s thriving tech scene.
Philadelphia LadyHacks is honored to have Chariot Solutions as the event’s signature sponsor. “Chariot understands the importance of expanding the pool of technologists in the US to help with the growing demand of companies’ technology needs,” says Tracey Welson-Rossman, Chief Marketing Officer at Chariot Solutions and Founder of TechGirlz. “We need more women and minorities to join the ranks of the tech economy. Support of events like LadyHacks is one way to achieve this goal.”
Mark Headd, Chief Data Officer for the City of Philadelphia notes, “Our city has always done hackathons well – better than most other cities. The hacker culture here is very strong, and our events are almost always setting the standard for other cities to follow. But the attendance at some of our events hasn’t always reflected the diversity of our technology community. Our city is full of smart, passionate women who are leaders in their chosen fields. Our technology community, and our city, can only get better if we can find ways to be more inclusive and welcoming to them at our hacking events. That’s why events like LadyHacks are critical – they are a gateway to deeper engagement in the wide range of events here in Philadelphia.”
Registration for this two-day event is $10. All proceeds will be donated to TechGirlz and the Philadelphia Chapter of Girl Develop It.
