Learn about lightweight development using the Spring Framework in a 2 day course presented by Thomas Risberg and Joel Confino of Chariot Solutions. Thomas is a Spring project contributor and recently co-authored the book “Professional Java Development with the Spring Framework” along with Rod Johnson, the father of Spring, and other key Spring developers. Joel is a JEE architect and Spring enthusiast.

**This training course is written FOR DEVELOPERS, BY DEVELOPERS.** It is hands-on and interactive. You will be writing code!

Spring Kickstart is a two-day training course covering:

* The Spring Lightweight Container including the Bean Factory and Application Context
* Data access with JPA and the JDBC Template
* Transactions, AOP, and JMX: Adding powerful services to your POJOs
* Spring MVC (Model-View-Controller) framework for creating Web applications
* Third-party web framework integration using Struts and JSF
* Learn the many new features in the Spring Framework version 2.0

The format is approximately 50% lecture and 50% lab work. With 2 instructors you’ll benefit from a low instructor-to-student ratio and be able to get your questions answered one-on-one.

The course will be held in the magnificent Hub CityView meeting space conveniently located in Center City Philadelphia only 1.5 blocks from Suburban Station. Breakfast and lunch are included on both days. Drink refreshments will also be available throughout the day.

### Thomas Risberg

Thomas Risberg currently works as an independent consultant specializing in Java EE and database projects. He has been developing database applications for over 20 years using a wide variety of languages and databases. Most of his current work is developed using Java, Java EE and Spring. He has been a committer on the Spring Framework project since early 2003, contributing to enhancements of the JDBC framework portion.

Thomas is co-author of “Professional Java Development with the Spring Framework” together with Rod Johnson, Juergen Hoeller, Alef Arendsen, and Colin Sampaleanu, published by Wrox in 2005.

### Joel Confino

Since his first Java assignment, printing reports with Java 1.02, Joel Confino has been hooked on Java technology. He has been involved in distributed systems, advanced Servlet architectures, and JEE design and programming for the past 7 years. Confino has consulted at many large financial services and pharmaceutical companies, and helped them use Java to expand their business and reach their customers with sophisticated web-based systems. He is currently a Java architect at Chariot Solutions.
