Two women from the Philly tech scene will be at the United State of Women Summit on June 14.
Tracey Welson-Rossman, founder of TechGirlz, and Corinne Warnshuis, executive director of Girl Develop It, received the news on Thursday that they were selected to join a national group of women from several fields to discuss women’s issues in a discussion convened by the White House.
“It’s a stamp of approval on what the TechGirlz team is doing,” Welson-Rossman said of the invitation.
Linking to other organizations with similar purpose will be her objective for the event. “None of use can solve the problem they want us to talk about by ourselves,” she said. “I want to walk away with ideas and borrow from other people’s successes.”
For Warnshuis, it’s her second visit to the White House. She spoke about Girl Develop It during the first White House Tech Meetup in 2015, alongside 150 members of the national tech community. This time around, she said she’s eager for a chance to share the Girl Develop It experience with First Lady Michelle Obama.
“I’d like to tell here what we’ve been doing here for the past six years, and tell her it’s working,” Warnshuis said.
Economic Empowerment, Health & Wellness, Educational Opportunity, Violence Against Women, Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Leadership & Civic Engagement will be the topics of discussion during the event, which will be broadcast live via the event’s website.
