Don Coleman Co-Authors Beginning NFC: Near Field Communication with Arduino, Android and PhoneGap. Book Focuses on How to Write Apps Using the NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF)

April 27, 2014 (Philadelphia, PA) – Chariot Solutions, a leading enterprise application and mobile development consulting firm, announced today that Don Coleman, Director of Consulting at Chariot, has co-authored Beginning NFC: Near Field Communication with Arduino, Android and PhoneGap.

“Our team prides itself on being a group of influential thought leaders in the tech industry,” Mike Rappaport, CEO and Founder of Chariot Solutions said.  “Don Coleman is one of the most forward thinking and innovative technologists in the region and someone that represents the depth of knowledge and skill we have here at Chariot.”

The book, published by O’Reilly Media and co-authored by Tom Igoe and Brian Jepson, focuses on Near Field Communications (NFC), the fast growing technology that allows devices in close proximity exchange data using radio signals.  The book offers a variety of examples, sample code, exercises and step-by-step projects.

“Beginning NFC… is a hands-on guide that shows users how to build NFC applications for Android, the Arduino microcontroller and embedded Linux devices such as Raspberry Pi,” Coleman said.  “Users will learn how to write apps using PhoneGap, Arduino and node.js that read messages from NFC tags and exchange data with other NFC-enabled devices.”

Coleman will be speaking at the following conferences on NFC technology:

ApacheCon – April 7-9

  • Writing NFC applications with Apache Cordova
  • Connecting Arduino and Phones with Bluetooth and Cordova

Philadelphia’s Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise Conference – April 22-23

  • Connecting Arduino and Phones with Bluetooth and Cordova

Maker Faire Bay Area – May 17-18

  • Arduino NFC
