Chariot Solutions provides pro bono software development support for Penn Medicine program
PHILADELPHIA — May 5, 2020 — In the time of a pandemic, healthcare practitioners serve the sick. But who serves the healthcare community? Nourished is a new contactless meal delivery platform created by Penn Medicine. Chariot Solutions provided pro bono software development as part of the volunteer effort to connect local Philadelphia restaurants with Penn Medicine staff. Launched in April, Penn’s healthcare workers get safe and convenient access to affordable takeout meals through Nourished. All orders are subsidized by Fuel the Fight and Frontline Foods to ensure affordable meals for staff.
Chariot donated its services out of love for a community that is so challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. “As a local technology company, we can give back to Philadelphia restaurants and healthcare,” said Michael Rappaport, CEO of Chariot Solutions. “Nourished is built for sustainability. The process ensures safe food handling practices, and we have been able to help quickly expand capacity from 90 orders to 200 orders per day.”
“Penn Medicine created the program for healthcare workers on the frontlines in order to provide safe and convenient access to meals during the COVID-19 pandemic, while supporting local restaurants,” said Roy Rosin, chief innovation officer at Penn Medicine. “With the volunteer engineering effort Chariot donated, we’ve been able to quickly and successfully launch Nourished to support our frontline health care teams.”
Healthcare workers use Nourished to order meals from local restaurants by web application. The platform launched as a pilot at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center on April 1, 2020, and has expanded coverage to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital.
Nourished launched with the participation of five restaurants: Baology, Cafe Ynez, El Merkury, On Point Bistro, and Pumpkin. These local restaurants are keeping a brisk business at an especially challenging time.
Moving forward, the Nourished team seeks to scale to include other health systems and communities. The platform’s roadmap includes continued development of protocols as well as a full featured website.
