Today, our CMO Tracey-Welson Rossman sits down with Leslie Richards, the General Manager of SEPTA.
SEPTA, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, is our region’s public transportation authority. It operates bus, rapid transit, commuter rail, light rail, and electric trolleybus services for nearly 4 million people in and around Philadelphia. And, as Tracey and Leslie discuss, the day-to-day operations of the company rely heavily on the use of data.
To meet the needs of as many passengers as possible, Leslie enumerates on the ways in which data is currently harnessed to keep SEPTA running smoothly: from real-time information for the SEPTA app and platforms, to alert management, to dispatch and traffic control systems, to safety and surveillance.
Then together they look ahead to the future: what are the modernization efforts SEPTA is undertaking, and how has COVID accelerated those efforts? And what role does public transit play in the economic recovery for our region?
