Philadelphia’s First Gathering of Women in Tech Helps Kick Off Philly Tech Week
March 26, 2012, Philadelphia, PA –
On April 21, 2012, the women of the Philadelphia area tech community will be gathering at the Wharton School of Business to share and learn about “Getting In, Surviving, Thriving and Giving Back” as a women in technology. The Philadelphia Women In Tech Summit is another City of Brotherly Love first. This first gathering of the women who work in, work with or want to learn more about working in the technology field brings together speakers, panelists and hands-on learning workshops to help Philly’s women in the technology field learn from and network with each other.
“The Women in Tech Summit is meant to bring all types of women in technology fields together in one room. Building a community where women in our field, no matter if they are a software developer or trying to see if this is a good career path for them, is one of the main goals of this event.” says Women In Tech Summit Organizer, Tracey Welson-Rossman, Chief Marketing Officer at Chariot Solutions, Board Member at Philly Startup Leaders and the Founder of TechGirlz.
Discussion topics at the Women In Tech Summit range from How to Get Into the Tech Industry, Adapting to Survive and Thrive, Building a Team, being the Second in Command, being a Mentor and (being) Mentored and the importance of Giving Back to other women and the community. Each of the speakers and panelists will be sharing their real life experiences and the lessons they have learned along their journey as women working in the technology field. In addition, to the speakers and panelists, some of the women leaders in Philly technology will be leading workshops on topics such as Responsive Web Design, Hacking the Gender Gap, Having Fun with Open Data and Test Driven Development.

The co-organizers of the Women In Tech Summit, Tracey Welson-Rossman, Kimberly Gress, Gloria Bell, Yasmine Mustafa, Amy Larrimore, Pam Selle and Roz Duffy may not all be “techies” in the traditional sense, but they are all active members of the Philadelphia technology community. Their vision was to bring together the other women in the field to build a strong support and learning network. The Women In Tech Summit is being held April 21, 2012 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Wharton School of Business, 3730 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA. Tickets are $25 for attendees and $10 for students. There will be a post event Networking Tea from 4 pm to 6 pm that is open to attendees and others who could not attend the full summit. Tickets to the Networking Tea are also available through the website and are $15.
