On turning a live conference into a virtual conference in 45 days

The Mid-Atlantic’s Premier Developer’s Conference, Philly Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise, was scheduled to take place at the Philadelphia Marriott Old City on April 14 to 15, 2020. For 2020 only, Philly ETE moved live online — due to COVID-19.

Nearly all speakers agreed to be part of the conference, with only a few adjustments to the schedule. Learn how our team turned the live conference into a virtual conference in 45 days.

In these episodes of 15 Minutes With, Tracey Welson-Rossman rounds up the team that drove Philly ETE’s pivot to online: Ken Rimple, Mark Shvets, and Becca Refford.

Part One: Decisions

In part one, the team discusses how and why a decision was made to go online, choosing the tech tools to facilitate the move, and setting up the online conference portal.

Part Two: When the Rubber Meets the Road

In part two, the team chats conference logistics leading up to the event, what worked, and what factors ultimately made the conference such a success the day-of – keeping the ‘ETE energy’, even in an online format.
