In this episode of 15 Minutes With, AWS Practice Lead Keith Gregory talks to David Esterkin and Matt Gilbride about “the 800-pound HIPAA in the room”. David and Matt are both developers at Chariot, working at a startup that’s creating a product for research institutions to store and manage datasets.
In this role, they’re often dealing with terabyte scales of highly regulated, secure data from clinical trials that must be fully HIPAA compliant. Sometimes this data is so confidential that they can’t even see or access it as developers.
So how does HIPAA compliance change the way software developers have to do their job? How does it affect release processes? How does one handle data that’s input by users? And how does AWS play into all of this? Keith, David, and Matt discuss.
